UTSA breaks ground on Park West Fieldhouse

UTSA today officially broke ground on its Park West Fieldhouse, a new facility that will serve as the home of the women’s soccer and men’s and women’s track & field/cross country programs.

Park West Fieldhouse is another milestone in the university’s strategic vision to further promote the academic success, health, wellness and performance of its student-athletes. The facility will continue a long-standing partnership between the university and Bexar County, enhancing the community’s ability to continue to host regional and national sporting events for youth.

The $8 million, 14,325 square-foot facility will be constructed at the UTSA Park West Athletics Complex, which is located on Kyle Seale Parkway adjacent to Loop 1604.

“We are committed to providing our student-athletes with the very best environment to enable them to achieve their full potential.”

“I’m deeply grateful for the continued leadership and partnership of Bexar County and the City of San Antonio as we collectively work to advance UTSA Athletics to serve our incredible student-athletes and the entire community with state-of-the-art public facilities,” UTSA President Taylor Eighmy said. “We are so fortunate that our county and city believe deeply in our purpose and mission as a university, especially in support of our athletics program. As I say, it’s the front porch to our university.”

The new facility will help enhance UTSA’s competitiveness in recruiting and retaining the nation’s best student-athletes, coaches and staff. It will include a multipurpose community room, locker rooms, team lounges, a sports medicine center and equipment area.

“We are committed to providing our student-athletes with the very best environment to enable them to achieve their full potential,” said UTSA Vice President for Intercollegiate Athletics Lisa Campos. “Park West Fieldhouse is a first-class facility that will improve our efforts in providing a championship experience while also helping to attract and retain the finest coaches and student-athletes. It will also allow us to continue to expand our strong partnership with Bexar County in hosting events at Park West Athletics Complex.”

“Park West Fieldhouse will provide UTSA with a first-class facility to help attract the best student-athletes, coaches and staff,” said Gene Dawson, president of the Roadrunner Foundation. “The momentum from opening the Roadrunner Athletics Center of Excellence last year combined with breaking ground on this new building continues to help propel UTSA and the Athletics Department to the next level. This is a very exciting time to be a Roadrunner.”
